When I went up this morning to receive communion during our church service, I prayed and asked God to shield us from attacks of the enemy as we mourn the death of Michael’s dad. As I was praying, I had a picture in my mind of a group of soldiers protecting themselves with their shields positioned over their group as a whole in the formation of a tortoise shell similar to what is pictured here. I believe God was saying that attacks from the devil are too aggressive for us to go into battle alone even when we’re clothed with the full armor of God. There is strength in community, in others fighting with us, in unity. So I ask that especially during this time as we journey through this grieving process, that you will cover us with prayer as we all join our shields to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (Ephesians 6:16).
